Ballyhoo is a small business and aims to make the very best of being a small business; we are able to respond quickly to changes in a fast moving industry and we can adapt to make use of new technologies as they emerge. Our size also allows us to maintain close contact with our customers to provide a personal service.
However, we are aware that there can be perceived down-sides to being a small company. In an effort to demonstrate our commitment to providing lasting business relationships, and perhaps allay any fears larger organisations may have when trading with us, we have produced this business continuity page to detail many of the steps we take to protect your interests.
Ballyhoo utilises a variety of popular, and frequently open-source, technologies to build and maintain our websites and services. These are commonly supported and, if you were ever to look to take your business elsewhere, we would expect you to have no difficulty in finding a developer proficient in their languages with sufficient hosting services.
For development we use the following languages:
- HTML 5
- CSS 3
- PHP 5.6
Databases are built for use with MySQL, the world's most popular open source database.
Professional email suite services are provided by G Suite, for which Ballyhoo is a certified reseller, with high-volume mail requirements fulfilled by third parties including Campaign Monitor and Mailgun.
Ballyhoo provides hosting services to our customers through a server managed by Rackspace. Based in the UK, Rackspace are industry leaders in managed hosting solutions and provide an unmatched level of support and customer service to their customers.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
- MySQL 5.1
- PHP 5.3 / 5.4 / 5.6
- Apache Web Server 2.2
- Plesk 12.5.30
Websites hosted with Ballyhoo Ltd are monitored 24/7 and fully backed up to a remote location on a daily basis. All backups are stored for a 2 week retention period allowing us to revert to a previous version of the website at any point within this period if necessary.
Our Rackspace server also boasts a 100% network and infrastructure uptime guarantee.
Please see our Hosting Terms & Conditions for further information.
In the Ballyhoo office we take advantage of cloud-computing and use the cloud-based remote backup service Google Drive. This service syncs with our team's computers and provides real-time storage of data. If required, it also allows us to access data when we are out of the office and see previous document versions.
All development is managed using Git, a distributed version control system, allowing multiple staff to work on projects simultaneously, keeping a full record of every change made to a project and allowing us to revert to older versions in an instant if required.
Access to our data is limited to Ballyhoo staff only and, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, is never disclosed to third parties without the prior consent of our customers. Customers can apply to us for access to their data and we will be happy to provide copies of their website or any other materials, including artwork, produced for their project.
In the event that Anthony Chaffey, managing director and majority shareholder of Ballyhoo Ltd, is unable to work due to injury or death, a contingency plan will take effect to ensure that the business continues to operate. Similar contingency plans apply for other key members of staff.
We will endeavour to ensure there is no upheaval or loss of efficiency during this time.
Ballyhoo Ltd's business insurance policy is provided by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd.
Full and sufficient policies are held for Employer's Liability, Public Liability and Professional Indemnity.
